He started his career in the service of the Nation as an officer of the Indian Army in August 1967. He took part in the 1971 Indo-Pak War in the Western (Sindh) Sector where he was the Forward Observation Officer of the 11 Infantry Division. He was awarded Sena Medal for Gallantry in this Operation.

He is former Governor of Chhattisgarh, former Deputy NSA and former Defence Secretary. He belongs to the 1969 batch of IAS from Madhya Pradesh cadre. He has held many other prestigious appointments such Secretary Defence Production, Secretary Health Ministry and Director General of Sports Authority of India. In 2010, he assumed the office of the Governor of Chhattisgarh.

 

Capt Shekhar Dutt played the key role in organizing the training and coaching of the Indian Contingent for the Commonwealth Games and Asian Games as Director General of Sports Authority of India (SAI) 2001-2003. Due to this the Indian Contingent won their highest ever medal tally of 69 medals in the Manchester Commonwealth Games 2002. He successfully organized the first Afro-Asian Games in Hyderabad in 2003.

 

As Governor, he was Chancellor of 11 State Universities and Visitor of 6 private Universities.

 

Presently, he is actively involved in the sectors of Education and Training, National Security and Defence, Renewable Energy as well as Sports and Culture. 

 

A keen strategic analyst and social reformist, he has been associated with Patriots Forum since long and has been guiding force in the initiatives taken by Patriots Forum. He has focused his time and energy for nation building and also character building of today’s youth as they will be leaders tomorrow shaping the destiny of India.

The recently concluded nine webinars under the title of Leadership Laboratory were conceptualized and formulated under his guidance and patronage.

Gen. Nawnit has extensive combat experience in J & K and North East. The important assignments in his illustrious career include as instructor in Counter Insurgency and Jungle Warfare School, Special Frontier Force, Assam Rifles and Rashtrya Rifles besides other even more significant assignments. He commanded Uri Brigade and been Commandant of Kumaon Regimental Centre, Deputy Managing Director of ECHS, Commandant High Altitude and Winter Warfare School in addition to various other important command and staff assignments.

 

 He has been awarded Sena Medal for exhibiting outstanding bravery and valor while discharging his duties in most challenging circumstance.

A bold, dedicated, motivator and result oriented Gen Nawnit has 37 years of experience in the domain of recruitment, education, training and development, financial planning, specialized training in mountain warfare, jungle warfare, counter insurgency and counter terrorism, executive functions, general administration, HRD, logistics, financial management and public relations.

 

He possesses proven record and extensive experience in the field of education. He was Chairman of Army Institute of Law and also headed two premier training institutes of Indian Army imparting training to foreign students and soldiers of Indian Armed Forces. He also held a prestigious appointment of Faculty Member and Coordinator of Counter Insurgency and Jungle Warfare School (CIJWS).

 

Gen. Nawnit is astute strategic analyst and Defence expert. He is immersed in studies related to geo-politics affecting India’s defense preparedness and sharply focuses on activities of China. Awakening Indian youth and instilling in the spirit of leadership and patriotism are his avowed priorities.

SB Tyagi holds Masters’ degrees in Philosophy, Sociology, Defence Studies & Political Science beside B.Sc. and LLB. He also holds master’s degree in Business Administration and post graduate diplomas in Business Administration, Personnel Management & Industrial Relations and Safety & Security Management. He had short but outstanding tenure in Indian Army where he was awarded Commendations by Chief of the Army Staff twice for devotion to duty and exemplary performance.

 

He has thirty eight years’ experience in the field of industrial security management. He has been regular faculty in Management Institutes. Various articles are regularly published in related magazines and internet sites. He also has made presentations in more than 38 international seminars on the subjects of homeland security and industrial security.

 

He is astute security consultant with in-depth knowledge of best practices and the technologies suitable to specific needs. His cost-effective security solutions are found to be pragmatic and helpful in loss prevention. His ‘out-of-the-box’ approaches have been path-breaking in modelling new concepts in security management. He has co-authored best-selling book - “Industrial Security: Management & Strategies”. Both as ‘thought leader’ and outstanding professional, SB Tyagi is well recognized world over for his achievements.

 

He is Co-founder and Chief Councillor of International Council For Security & Safety Management.
